This is a classic example of how politicized our “justice” apparatus is.

When the FBI originally released the “final” crime data for 2022 in September 2023, it reported that the nation’s violent crime rate fell by 2.1%. This quickly became, and remains, a Democratic Party talking point to counter Donald Trump’s claims of soaring crime.
But the FBI has quietly revised those numbers, releasing new data that shows violent crime increased in 2022 by 4.5%. The new data includes thousands more murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults.
The Bureau – which has been at the center of partisan storms – made no mention of these revisions in its September 2024 press release.
Got that? In September, 2023, the FBI reported a 2.1% decrease in violent crime. Democrats have spent the last year bragging about how well things are going in this regard and attacking Republicans for daring to question that claim’s validity.
And now? Quietly, as far under the radar as possible, the FBI has revised this statistic – from a drop of 2.1% in violent crime to a rise of 4.5%.
That is no small difference. That’s not, for example, a 2.1% drop in crime being revised to, say, a 1.2% drop. That is a perceptible drop in crime being revised to a significant rise. And three weeks after the revision there still is no explanation for it.
Again from Mr. Lott’s article (the bold print is mine):
The actual changes in crimes are extensive. The updated data for 2022 report that there were 80,029 more violent crimes than in 2021. There were an additional 1,699 murders, 7,780 rapes, 33,459 robberies, and 37,091 aggravated assaults. The question naturally arises: should the FBI’s 2023 numbers be believed?
How can you believe anything the FBI, in its current incarnation, tells you? Or the Department Of Justice? Or, for that matter, the Secretary of Homeland Security, alejandro mayorkas, who spent years telling us our southern border was secure? Or anyone else in this awful administration?
