Chris Cillizza is a hardline Democrat commentator, and, until 2022, a mainstay on CNN (no surprise there).
He has just written an opinion piece titled “The Political Disaster Hiding in Plain Sight for Democrats”.
I started reading, expecting to see a dissertation on how Democrats are on the wrong side of issue after issue – e.g. border security, crime in the cities, etc.
But, incredibly, that was just about the only explanation I didn’t see.
In order, Chris Cillizza blames Democrats’ disastrous condition on voter registration, using the wrong sources to generate voter registration, a shortage of funds, and – finally – low favorability ratings, but with no specifics to explain why.
Hey, here’s a thought, Chris: maybe the loss of voters, the money shortage (less contributions to the party) and the low favorability ratings have something to do with Democrats’ positions on issues that voters care about.
But, based on this opinion piece, in Chris Cillizza’s world that possibility either doesn’t exist or he doesn’t want to mention it.
Tone deafness, to the extreme.
Reality check: if Democrats parallel Chris Cillizza and duck away from this 800 lb. gorilla in the middle of the room – the fact that they are on the wrong side of major issues – they are going to continue losing voters and, presumably, also losing elections.
Time to take the party back from the AOC/Jasmine Crockett/Ilhan Omar/Rashida Tlaib/Bernie Sanders wing, and bring it somewhere near the mainstream.
