Several days ago there were unconfirmed reports that Thomas E. Duncan, who came here from Liberia while infected with the ebola virus – and apparently knew his condition but engaged in physical contact with an unknown number of people anyway, had died.
Those reports were wrong. But today\’s are not.
Duncan has just died at the Dallas hospital which, despite all their efforts, could not save him.
We have no idea how many people he passed the virus along to…..
…..and we have no idea how many other people will come here from ebola breeding grounds such as Liberia, Senegal and the Ivory Coast, carrying the virus and spreading it to our population.
But despite all this, Thomas Frieden, Director of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) – and, if you\’re asking me, a human version of Guy Smiley – keeps telling us, with an air of desperately contrived calmness, that we have nothing to worry about.
My advice, in a word? Worry.
