Did you ever wonder why Barack Obama, a man who managed to become a two-term President with virtually no résumé whatsoever, can’t get other Democrats elected?
It’s amazing, isn’t it? Mr. Obama, for all his personal success and fawning adoration by our wonderful “neutral” media, became President when Democrats were in full control of the country – a huge 60% majority in both houses of congress, and nearly that much in Governorships.
Since then, with Mr. Obama fronting his party, they have lost all three to Republicans.
Why?
Here is a pretty good explanation, from John Hinderaker’s latest piece at powerlineblog.com, which I am posting in its entirety because it is too short to excerpt:
Contrary to what seems to be the conventional wisdom, I don’t think President Obama is a particularly good speaker. This is partly because he is lost without a teleprompter, partly because he has no gift for the memorable turn of phrase, and partly because he rarely talks about anything except himself. Think about it–when has an Obama speech ever moved public opinion on any issue? Never. If he has ever been effective at the podium, it has been in promoting his own candidacies.
Which brings us to Obama’s performance last night. He was speaking, ostensibly, in support of Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid, but as usual with our president, his speech was mostly about him. Grabien has compiled this montage of Obama’s 119 self-references. To be fair, some of them are “we.” But you get the point: whatever critics may have thought of Obama’s performance, one wonders whether it did Mrs. Clinton much good.
Yep. Well said. And there’s one other major factor as well: Barack Obama, as a Black President, has been extremely adept at using his minority status as a shield against criticism.
Say a bad word about his performance, and it’s “just because you can’t deal with a Black man in the White House”.
How many times have we heard that? Help me out here, because I’ve lost count.
But the thing is, that perpetual victim strategy only works for him, not for almost any of the people he has supported.
So add it all together. Add the enormous level of narcissism described by Mr. Hinderaker – which we can find in just about every speech Barack Obama makes everywere, to anyone, about anything – and his race-based shield…
…and what we find is someone with huge success in promoting himself, but inconsequential for anyone but himself.
Or, as any seasoned pol would say in just two words, “no coat-tails”.
