To prove that Trump’s claims about Chicago being the pinnacle of urban crime are bogus, Andrew Stanton, in his latest article for Newsweek, shows us the list of cities with 100,000 or more residents that have higher crime rates than Chicago. And he’s got a point.
But there is a little more to it.
One point is that Chicago’s crime rate, while lower than the others, is still huge. And since it is a larger city than any of the others, maybe it needs a National Guard deployment anyway.
Then there a second point. To explain this one, I need to show you the list of “higher crime rate” cities.
From Stanton’s article:
Here is a list of cities with more than 100,000 residents that have higher crime rates than Chicago, per the FBI report.
-
- Birmingham, Alabama (58.8)
- St. Louis, Missouri (54.1)
- Memphis, Tennessee (40.6)
- Baltimore, Maryland (34.8)
- Detroit, Michigan (31.2)
- Cleveland, Ohio (30)
- Dayton, Ohio (29.7)
- Kansas City, Missouri (27.6)
- Shreveport, Louisiana (26.8)
- Washington, D.C. (25.5)
- Richmond, Virginia (24.2)
- South Fulton, Georgia (22.2)
- Cincinnati, Ohio (21.8)
- Louisville, Kentucky (21.7)
- Indianapolis, Indiana (20)
- Oakland, California (18.6)
- Albuquerque, New Mexico (18.4)
- Montgomery, Alabama (18.1)
- Minneapolis, Minnesota (18)
- Lancaster, California (17.7)
- Little Rock, Arkansas (17.6)
- Hartford, Connecticut (17.6)
There they are. All 22 of them.
Now: want to know why Shreveport, Louisiana and Lancaster, California are in bold print?
The reason is that they are the only two cities which have a Republican Mayor. The other 20 all have Democrat Mayors.
So in the course of proving that Trump was bloviating/exaggerating in his claim that Chicago is the worst of the worst, what Stanton has also proved is that high crime major cities are almost exclusively governed by Democrats…which he did not bother to mention anywhere in his article.
Hmmmmm. I wonder when Andrew Stanton will write an article pointing that out. Think 12th of Never.
