THE ASTOUNDING GENIUS OF OSCAR PETERSON

Ken Berwitz

Apropos of nothing political, but everything brilliant beyond belief….

If you click here, you will be treated to seven minutes of Dick Cavett\’s interview, in which he asks Oscar Peterson to explain, via his piano playing, a number of jazz techniques.

Dick Cavett – who is still alive and, I\’m pretty sure, very well at the age of 79 – was a superb interviewer, who knew how to get the most out of his subjects…most often by letting them demonstrate why they were on his show in the first place (a lesson Bill O\’Reilly desperately needs to learn).

And Oscar Peterson, who left us in 2007, was an astounding genius.  I could write countless paragraphs about his immense talents, knowledge and ability to take the most complex constructions and make them entertaining to enthralled audiences.  But all I would be saying is variations of “astounding genius”, so I\’ll leave it at that.

Use the link, and listen to the interview/music.  You\’re welcome.

OK, back to politics, where “astounding” almost always far more applicable than “genius”, and what “genius” there is, we usually could do without anyway.
