THE AFTERMATH

Two weeks ago our wonderful, “neutral” media were collectively salivating at the thought of a Hillary Clinton (not to mention Bill) White House and Democrat majority in the senate – maybe even house of representatives too.

How many of them joined with Democrats in saying, or at least thinking…

…”Let those P.O.S. Republicans have the house by a tiny margin (assuming we don’t win it outright).  Let them have a majority of governors and statehouses.  We’ll have everything else.  We’ll pick the supreme court majority for the next 20 years – and put in people who will make those Repugs wish to God they had let us have Merrick Garland.  They won’t know what hit them. ”

Well, it didn’t exactly work out that way.

In previous blogs I have enumerated the extent of the Republican win.  But now that just about all the final tallies are in, I thought I’d provide a more complete rundown.

–White House:  As if you didn’t already know.

–Senate:  51 to 48 Republican, with one race – Louisiana – to be decided next month, and a virtual certainty it will give Republicans a 52nd seat.

–House of Representatives:  238 Republicans to 193 Democrats, with four seats left to be decided.

–Governorships:  31 Republicans to 18 Democrat (Alaska’s Governor is an independent).

–Statehouses:  Republicans now control both legislative bodies in 32 states.  Democrats control both in 13 states (five are split).

But Democrats should not despair.  There is much for them to be thrilled about:

-They still own most of the media – which are showing their fandom by continuing to attack Donald Trump and Republicans mercilessly every day since the election. What a great asset this must be for Democrats.  After all, look how well it worked out for them on election day;

– They are in virtually complete control of most major college campuses…where it remains nearly impossible for conservatives, or anyone with a good word to say about Israel, to speak without protests and major attempts – very often successful – aimed at preventing them from being heard;

-And they now have at least the next two years to blame everything that happens on what a hate-filled, racist, misogynistic, xenophobic country we are.  Anti-semitic too….for those Democrats who find anti-Semitism – often manfested as Israel-hatred – distasteful (which, very sad to say, is significantly fewer than there used to be).  The fact that this is the same country which elected Barack Obama?  Twice?  Irrelevant’n’immaterial.

Lucky Democrats.  What a great framework to rebuild from.
