The renowned physicist/theorist, Stephen Hawking, has died at the age of 76.

Though he was celebrated for his theoretical work in areas I won’t even try to summarize, and for his book, “A Brief History of Time” (10 million copies sold), Mr. Hawking’s greatest fame outside the scientific community was due to surviving the ravages of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS/”Lou Gehrig’s Disease”) and living over half a century longer than he was expected to.

There is another side to Mr. Hawking, regarding his world views, that is not very pretty.  But his scientific credentials were impeccable and his life was truly unique.  So, now that he is gone, let’s leave it at that.

May Stephen Hakwing rest in peace.
