As you probably know by now, CBS has announced that Comedy Central\’s Stephen Colbert is going to take over for David Letterman when he retires next year.
I have watched Colbert infrequently, for short periods of time. I find him clever, occasionally funny, but not very entertaining for my tastes.
On the other hand, my tastes are a generation removed from the people who have made Colbert successful in his show.
I can see where Colbert\’s smart alecky style would be a logical next-generation replacement for the similarly-styled David Letterman – though I\’m not at all sure he will do well relative to the (in my opinion, of course) much more talented, creative, entertaining next-generation guy The Tonight Show has in Jimmy Fallon*.
I also wonder if Jon Stewart\’s blood pressure has dropped below 780 over 500, after being passed over for the gig.

*I originally wrote Jimmy Kimmel – another next-generation Jimmy who is enjoying a lot of success, but not the one I meant. Thanks to Steve for pointing it out.
