(SOME) BLACK LIVES MATTER

Did you know that Black lives matter so much that protesters disrupted rush hour traffic on Rte I93 into Boston today?

You may wonder what disrupting traffic on a busy highway during a heavy traffic period has to do with Black lives mattering.  If so, welcome to the club.

Excerpted from Steve Cooper\’s article at WHDH Channel 7, NBC\’s Boston affiliate:

Protesters severely delayed traffic on Interstate 93northbound in Milton and southbound in Medford during Thursday\’smorning commute.

According to a press release sent out by theprotesters, their intention was to, “\’disrupt business asusual\'” to protest police and state violence against blackpeople.”

According to the Mass. State Police, theprotesters attached themselves to 1200-pound barrels. Col.Tim Alben said six individuals were tied inside the barrels and hadto be cut out of the barrels.

Albensaid protesters on the Interstate highway endangered their lives, thelives of the people on the highway, and people who were involved inneither situation. He made note that Easton emergency crews wereunable to transport a trauma patient to a Boston hospital due to theprotests.

In what way does disrupting rush hour traffic – and delaying an ambulance carrying a trauma patient – further the cause of racial justice for Black people?

Speaking personally, I don\’t have the slightest idea.  But I definitely have an idea of what the readers who commented on this article think about it.  I suggest you use the above link and read a few of them.  Don\’t expect any wholehearted endorsements.

Today is the 159th day since August 9th, when Michael Brown was shot and killed in Ferguson, Missouri.  Based on the last ten or so years, if this has been an average period it means that, in each of those days, about 19 Black people were murdered in the USA, and 18 of them were murdered by other Black people…with a largely disproportionate number being young Black males killing other young Black males.

Do the math and you will find that comes to about 3,021 Black people dead, 2862 of them at the hands of other Black people.  If bout half the murderers and victims are young males (which is probably an understatement) you have about 1,431 young Black males dead since the Michael Brown shooting.

But, just to be fair, let me show you data specifically from the most recent year I can find – 2011 – because murders in that one year occurred at a lower rate than the multi-year average used above.

In 2011 alone, a total of 6,309 Black people were murdered – that\’s over 17 per day.  And about 16 of them were murdered by other Blacks.  So, even for this one better-than-average year, the 159 day total was 2,703 dead, 2,544 of them at the hands of other Blacks.

Let me also point out that 487 of the murder victims in 2011 were Black males under the age of 18 – in other words, younger than Michael Brown.

Now tell me:  how many protests have been mounted to “disrupt business as usual” on their behalf?  Not a one, I\’m betting.

See, these “protesters” don\’t give a damn about Black lives. To them, the only Black lives that matter are the ones that can be turned into racial incidents for their overall agenda.

As for the other Black murder victims?  Pass the popcorn.  It\’s nothing but entertainment, and they couldn\’t care less.
