Daniel Greenfield is a very smart guy, and a much better, more reasoned writer than you would suspect if you only read his latest piece, on New York Mayor bill de blasio.
On the other hand, snarky though it may be, Mr. Greenfield is mostly right on target in his criticisms of this disaster on legs and what he is doing to my home town…so I thought I\’d post an excerpt:
Billde Blasio declared war on Central Park carriage horses, put cellphones back in schools, put criminals back in public housing, housedhomeless in neighborhoods across the city, went to war with the fewcity schools that worked and went to war with the police.
Andfor an encore, he banned packing peanuts.
Withina short time he had managed to reverse decades of reforms whilealienating everyone except the editorial board of the New York Timeswhich would continue to support him even if, or especially if, hebegan executing Kulaks on Staten Island.
Progressiveshope that Bill de Blasio will become a national figure. But insteadof a triumphant entry on the national stage, he became famous as theman whom the NYPD turned its back on. And the Democratic NationalConvention that he was hoping to host is looking for a less troubledcity… like Detroit.
As I said, Greenfield wrote this pretty snarkily (in fact, what you just read is less so than a lot of the rest).
But is his overall point – that de blasio is dismantling decades of improvement in the name of left wing ideology and PC – correct or incorrect?
You decide.
