Here is an entire article, written by Meghan Shapiro Hodgin at nj.com, about what happened to a seventh grader who apparently was first “played” by a school bully, and then treated like a criminal by a school principal who claims that basic common sense is superseded by procedure that is so patently idiotic a third grader would be embarrassed by it:
If this doesn\’t get your blood boiling, I don\’t know what will:
VERNON– A seventh-grade student at Glen Meadow Middle School wassuspended last week. The student says he twirling a pencil in class, while the school says it may have been more, News12 reported.
EthanChaplin told News 12 that while he was twirling a pencil with a pencap on in math class, a student who bullied him earlier in the dayyelled, “He\’s making gun motions, send him to juvie.”
VernonSchools Superintendent Charles Maranzano told News 12 that schoolpolicy and the law requires him to investigate when anyone in aschool feels uncomfortable or threatened by another student.
Chaplin\’sfather, Michael Chaplin, recorded a conversation between himself, theschool\’s principal and guidance counselor earlier in the week, andposted it onYoutube. In the video\’s description, Michael Chaplin wrote thathis son was to be evaluated and see a therapist before he couldreturn to school.
“Ifeel my son\’s right to an education is now being denied because ofthe malicious actions of another student,” Michael Chaplin wroteon Youtube.
MichaelChaplintold infowars.com that his son had to undergo a five-hourphysical and psychological evaluation.
“Thechild was stripped, had to give blood samples (which caused him topass out) and urine samples for of all things drug testing,”Michael Chaplin told the website. “Then four hours later a socialworker spoke to him for five minutes and cleared him. Then an actualdoctor came in and said the state was 100 percent incorrect in theirprocedure and this would not get him back in school.”
Accordingto the website, a meeting was scheduled for Monday morning to discussEthan Chaplin\’s return to the school.
Are these people out of their minds?
Please note that there is no mention of anyone but the alleged school bully saying a thing about Ethan. Did the teacher, or the principal, bother to ask any of the other students whether Ethan Chaplin had done anything threatening? Did they bother to check on whether this student had been starting up with him prior to his comment?
Unless I see evidence that is very different from what I am reading here, a wise-ass kid, made a stupid comment about another kid in his class….and the other kid is paying a huge price for it…one that conceivably can scar him for life.
This is absolutely insane.
If Principal Maranzano is right about this procedure, then let\’s have the names of the people who put it in place so they can explain to the Chaplins, and the rest of us, what made them think this is a rational way of treating children. If he is wrong about this procedure, then he better be prepared to explain his own actions.
Either way, someone had damn well better start explaining something.
What is happening in our education system? When was basic common sense abandoned in favor of an insane “procedure” the school can hide behind? And how fast can it be reversed?
