PUBLIC REACTION TO “STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS”: IN CASE YOU HAD ANY DOUBT…

…we have this, from Rasmussen Reports:

Most voters approve of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that declared President Joe Biden’s student loan debt cancellation unconstitutional.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 63% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of the court’s decision that struck down Biden’s program to cancel billions of dollars in student loan debt, including 49% who Strongly Approve. Thirty-one percent (31%) disapprove of the Supreme Court student loan ruling, including 20% who Strongly Disapprove. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Please, please tell me you’re not surprised by this.  Please, please tell me you’re not surprised that the general public, which until now has assumed – very often from actual experience – that if you take out a loan you pay it back, is not taken with the idea of “forgiving” loans college students took.

What about the people who took out loans to pay for their children’s college educations and paid back every cent.  Do they get that money back, maybe with interest?

What about people who took out loans to buy their homes.  Or pay bills when money was tight?  To keep a roof over their families’ heads and food on the table?  Do they get that money back?  Or do they get nothing back, continue to pay off those loans, and now pay additional money, via taxes. for somebody else NOT to have to pay back loans?

The only surprise in those poll numbers is that 31% of the country would go for this insanity.

On the other hand, take out the percentage who would get $$$ in their hands if this ever passed, and see how many are left.  Not many, I’ll bet.
