Here is the latest on what the Obama administration calls a bunch of “phony scandals”. It involves the “phony” Operation Fast & Furious scandal and comes to us via excerpts from Mario Trujillo’s article at thehill.com:
A gun from the failed U.S. operation known as “Fast and Furious” turned up at the scene of a shootout between Mexican authorities and alleged cartel gunmen earlier this month, according to CNN.
U.S. officials told CNN at least one AK-47-style gun that could be traced back to the failed gun-walking scheme was found at the scene.
“The shootout on Dec. 18 left five alleged cartel members dead in Puerto Penasco, a popular tourist site in Mexico.
The now-defunct Fast and Furious program began in 2009 and was run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Agents allowed low-level weapons purchasers to cross the Mexican border in an attempt to expose trafficking routes used by Mexican cartels. But the agency ultimately lost track of some weapons, including two found at the scene of the killing of a border patrol agent in 2010.
The ATF acknowledged that weapons from the operation would likely continue to turn up at crime scenes.
This is a “phony scandal”? To review:
-Operation Fast & Furious weapons were almost certainly responsible for the deaths of at least two US agents – Brian Terry and Jaime Zapata.
-Mexico claims they are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of its citizens.
-God alone knows how many other crimes, both violent and non-violent, were committed with these weapons and how many will be committed in the future.
-President Obama and Attorney General eric holder have spent years doing everything in their power to stall every investigation of what happened in every way possible – up to and including Mr. Obama invoking executive privilege, which is tantamount to an admission that he was personally involved.
But it’s a “phony scandal”. Just ask the President and the Attorney General.
The only thing phony here – the real phony, without quotation marks – is this administration’s claims that Operation Fast & Furious is a “phony scandal”.
Do these people ever tell the truth about anything?
