At another time in our history – a much uglier time – if a southern politician was in trouble, a sure way to generate more votes was to “out-seg” his/her opponent. That is, to show that no matter how staunchly the opponent supported racial segregation, he/she was even more so.
Well, it is 2016. And Hillary Clinton – a perfectly awful campaigner who, other than for her hardcore supporters, has all the charisma of a half-sucked Life Saver, harder – suddenly finds herself being overhauled in Iowa and New Hampshire by Bernard “Bernie” Sanders, a self-described socialist whose idea of nirvana is making “rich people” pay for everything that everyone else wants and doesn\’t have.
What to do, what to do.
Hey here\’s an idea.
I\’ll show everyone I can soak “the rich” even more than Bernie can.
With this brilliant strategy in mind, Hillary Clinton has come out with a plan to implement a 4% surcharge on people who make $5 million dollars or more.
This idea – which runs the risk of disincentiing people from doing the things they do to make that kind of money (like grow businesses and creat jobs) – even maybe drive a few of them out of the country (renouncing US citizenship for tax reasons has set records in each of the last two years) took a quantum leap upward during the Obama administration) will generate – assuming you believe Hillary Clinton (which there is no good reason to do) – about $15 billion dollars a year.
FYI: $15 billion dollars a year would not put a dent in the deficit. It wouldn\’t give it even a tiny little ding.
But the good news for Hillary – or so she apparenty thinks – is that it is more than what Bernie Sanders has asked for. So she has, for the time being, successfully out-soaked Sanders.
Stay tuned, folks. This is not over yet. Don\’t doubt for a second that Bernie Sanders can find a way to get back on top. Which would then cause Hillary to have to…..
….you can finish that sentence yourself. Feel free to use whichever adjectives come to mind.
