OUR THINGS CONSIDERED (NOT YOURS)

NPR has a program titled “All Things Considered”.  As you can see by the title of this blog, I have a different name for it – one which I think is far more accurate.

For the latest demonstration of why I say this, please read Tim Graham’s piece at newsbusters.org, which describes a segment, hosted by Audi Cornish and featuring NPR health policy correspondent Alison Kodjak, about abortion in general and Planned Parenthood in particular.

Here is just one exchange:

CORNISH: Can you tell us more about the states where this could have real impact?

KODJAK: Well, it depends a little bit on the make-up of the states, obviously. It’s states that are run by Republican legislatures with Republican governors who are likely to support this kind of legislation. States with rural – a lot of rural areas are likely to see a lot of impact because these clinics aren’t everywhere. So if Planned Parenthood is the closest clinic where you can get family planning services — and when I say that, I’m talking about pap smears, mammograms, birth control and in some cases obviously abortions — you might have to travel very far to get those services. You might not get them at all.

Uh…..Planned Parenthood does not offer mammograms.  It never has.

If you need a mammogram and go to Planned Parenthood for one, it will send you somewhere else…where you could have gone in the first place.

Planned Parenthood is primarily an abortion facility, not a health clinic.  But you’d never know it from this exchange.  And – as is typical of NPR – with no one there from the pro-life side, that can’t happen, can it?

As you can see, NPR’s idea of “all things considered” when it comes to abortion is not pro-life and pro-choice, it is degree of pro-choice.

I don’t care which side of this issue you are on (personally, I’m in between – I won’t bore you with the specifics, I’ve posted them here many times).  I do care, however, about whether all sides are presented so that people have an informed basis for making up their minds.  And NPR, apparently, is about the last place this is going to happen.

  • I wonder why they left out the lie of getting prenatal care? They usually add that one to the list when lying about what PP does.
