OUR PHARMACEUTICAL SOURCE: CHINA OR ISRAEL?

If the United States has to source pharmaceuticals from a foreign country, and our choice is either China or Israel, which would you prefer?  Which would you feel more comfortable with?  Which do you trust more?

While you’re thinking about that, please read the following excerpts from David Sidman’s article at breakingisraelnews.com;  see if it coincides with the way you feel:

Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Chris Coons (D-DE) are launching a bipartisan effort to ween the U.S off of medical reliance on China and replace it, at least partially, with Israel. More specifically, the two senators have launched the initiative to mitigate the coronavirus pandemic in America. Both members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee are also seeking $12 million in order to “enhance partnerships between companies in the United States and Israel to develop innovative medical projects aimed at detecting, treating, and curing COVID-19.”

“I’ve long said that China poses the most significant, long-term geopolitical threat to the United States. Our dependence on China for life-saving medications and treatments is deeply problematic,” Cruz said in a tweet. “Israel is not only our friend and ally, but also a global leader in medicine with which we already cooperate on exactly those issues. I’m proud to push forward to ensure both American and Israeli companies can work together to develop cures and treatments to defeat COVID-19.”

Does that make sense to you?  Lots of sense?

How could we have allowed China to become our single most prolific source of pharmaceuticals that we rely on for our health?  How could we have allowed our tax structure and massive, complex maze of regulations to force manufacture of such pharmaceuticals out of the country?

And – note to adam schiff – which president is the one who has lowered the tax rate and removed a significant amount of such regulations to make it feasible for at least some of this production to again become domestic?

The more such products that are produced at home, the better. But if we have to outsource, it makes all the sense in the world that the country/countries we outsource to be allies, not adversaries – with a history of exporting shoddy goods and contaminated foods to boot.

My strongest support to senators Cruz and Coons – who, despite their major political differences in so many other areas, are coming together in this effort.

May the rest of congress join them.
