“Vote for my guys and if they win I’ll send you money”: Is that a bribe? Of course it is.
“If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections, I’m going to give all Adult Citizens in the United States of America, $5,000.” : Is that a bribe? Of course it is.
My problem? The first bribe offer was not real; it was something I came up with to make a point. But the second bribe offer was real. It was put out by Donald Trump, the President of the United States, on his “Truth Social” website.
Sadly, the fact that political bribes exist and are offered to get votes in this country is undeniable. Despite the fact that it is 100% wrong, we all know it happens.
But offering bribes to get votes is not how the United States is supposed to work. And it sure as eff isn’t the way a President of the United States is supposed to try and get votes – especially when there is no pretense at all; it is out in the open, where everyone can see it.
I hope that Republicans in tight races – as many of them as possible – go public with statements that they want votes based on their personal attributes and their agendas, not on a bribe.
What next, President Trump? Will you offer them free weekends at Mar-A-Lago too?
