As media continue to happily assure us that there have been 5 million ObamaCare sign-ups (while often – in some cases never – telling us that an estimated million or more of them did not pay any premium, thus are not really signed up at all, and that instead of the 38% – 40% of 18 – 34 year olds necessary for it to work, only 25% are among the sign-ups)….
…we now find that insurance premiums are on the rise. On the fast rise. Far faster than anyone in the Obama administration mentioned they would.
Excerpted from Sarah Hurtubise\’s article at dailycaller.com:
Healthinsurance premiums have risen more after Obamacare than the averagepremium increases over the eight years before it became law, according to the private health exchange eHealthInsurance.
Theindividual market for health insurance has seen premiums rise by 39percent since February 2013, eHealth reports.Without a subsidy, the average individual premium is now $274 amonth. Families have been hit even harder with an averageincrease of 56 percent over the same period – average premiums arenow $663 per family, over $426 last year.
Between2005 and 2013, average premiums for individual plans increased 37percent and average family premiums were upped 31 percent. So theyhave risen faster under Obamacare than in the previous eight years.
Sign-up levels far lower than what we were told they had to be. Disproportionately fewer 18-34\’s than are necessary for this to work. And premiums (not to mention deductibles) way above what they were before. That is the reality which so many media venues conveniently avoid talking about.
ObamaCare is an unworkable monstrosity. That is why this administration has lied to us about it so often, and why virtually every major part of it has been waived until after the 2014 elections.
They are counting on two things: media complicity and voter ignorance/stupidity. To a great extent, they already have the first. Don\’t help them out with the second.
UPDATE: I just was on the invaluable drudgereport.com site, and found this, excerpted from Elise Viebeck\’s article at thehill.com:
Healthindustry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in someparts of the country, countering claims recently made by theadministration.
Theexpected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid anintense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs. The sticker shock would likely bolster the GOP’s prospects inNovember and hamper ObamaCare insurance enrollment efforts in 2015.
Theindustry complaints come less than a week after Health and HumanServices (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sought to downplayconcerns about rising premiums in the healthcare sector. She toldlawmakers rates would increase in 2015 but grow more slowly than inthe past.
“Theincreases are far less significant than what they were prior to theAffordable Care Act,” the secretary said in testimony before theHouse Ways and Means Committee.
Hercomment baffled insurance officials, who said it runs counter to theindustry\’s consensus about next year.
It is hard not to conclude that the only reason Kathleen Sebelius still has her job is because she is as willing to lie about ObamaCare as President Obama is. And the only reason either of them have their jobs is that much of what passes for mainstream media is, in fact, the Obama administration\’s Accomplice Media – supposed “journalists” who act as paid propagandists for their lord and savior Barack Obama.
