I suppose, in a way, you can’t blame Democrats for lying about Republicans in general and Trump in particular. If most of our media allow them to get away with it, why not? All it takes is active imagination and low scruples.
Here are the latest two you can add to the (increasingly voluminous) pile.
Republicans control the senate, so they are causing the shutdown.
Republicans have a 53-47 majority in the senate. So if the shutdown vote were based on majority rule, Democrats would be accurate. And they are hoping voters believe that is the case.
But it isn’t.
The reason the shutdown exists is that the vote to end filibuster and get to that majority situation – requires 60 votes, not 50. And for 13 consecutive times, a majority – consisting almost entirely of Republicans – has voted to end the filibuster. But since, with just 3 exceptions, every Democrat has voted against ending the filibuster, the 60 vote total has not been achieved.
Want proof? How about the latest vote, which took place yesterday. It was 54 – 46 in favor of ending the shutdown. the 54 votes to do so were comprised of 51 Republicans and 3 Democrats The 46 votes to keep the government shut down were comprised of 45 Democrats and one Republican. (NOTE: Republican Majority Leader John Thune voted “No” only for procedural reasons, once it became clear it would not pass. His actual vote on the issue was “Yes”.)
Bottom line? The claim that Republicans control this vote is a lie. The only way any party could control the vote is if it had 60 votes, which Republicans do not. Democrats, by voting over 90% against ending the government shutdown, are solely responsible for it continuing.
Building a ballroom is Donald Trump’s main priority
This amazingly phony claim has been made by Democrat politicians galore, including Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries and Gavin Newsom and (click here to see how many others there were).
The basis for their claim? A comment made by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt which included these words: “at this moment in time, of course, the ballroom is really the president’s main priority”.
If that is all there is, the claim by these Democrats would ring 100% true.
But, as every one of those Democrats knows, that ISN’T all there is.
Here is what actually was said – the entire sequence, not just the words Democrats extracted without their context:
Karoline Leavitt was giving a daily White House press briefing and she was asked this question: “In addition to the ballroom and the Rose Garden patio, is the president looking at any other renovations or significant kind of projects here at the White House?”
Leavitt replied, “Not to my knowledge, no. But he’s a builder at heart, clearly. And so his heart and his mind is always churning about how to improve things here on the White House grounds. But at this moment in time, of course, the ballroom is really the president’s main priority.”
Got that? Leavitt was answering a question that was exclusively about renovations at the White House. This had exactly nothing to do with overall presidential priorities.
Bottom line? The claim that Leavitt said Trump’s highest priority of all is the ballroom, is a complete, total lie.
As Trump’s accomplishments – closing the border, getting NATO countries to finally pay their fair share of its costs, emasculating Iran, brokering peace agreements with warring countries around the world, bringing trillions of dollars of manufacturing business back to the United States , etc. etc. etc. – accumulate…
…this absolute BS is what Democrats have been reduced to pushing out.
And let’s never forget that the only reason they are able to do so is because most of our media are happy to look the other way on their behalf.
If this country’s mainstream media were acting like media – i.e. presenting both sides evenhandedly and nailing both political parties when they exaggerate/lie, Democrats could never get away with it.
Personally? I assure you I will nail political parties – both of them, not just one – every time they try to pull BS like this. That is an iron-clad promise.
