If the latest poll is any indication, more and more New York City voters are realizing how catastrophic it would be for zohran mamdani to be elected Mayor.
Suffolk University’s just-released poll shows mamdani with a 10% lead – 44% – 34% over Democrat Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent.
While that might seem pretty comfortable with just one week to go before election day, please note that September’s Suffolk University poll had mamdani ahead by 20%. In other words, Cuomo is gaining rapidly.
And who is not gaining – rapidly or otherwise? Republican Curtis Sliwa. This poll puts him at 11% – a weak third place, way behind the other two candidates.
What does this mean? It means that, if this (and other polls which place Sliwa way back in third place) are correct, Sliwa cannot win the mayoralty.
So what happens if he drops out?
If Sliwa drops out, it is logical that, given a choice between moderate Democrat Cuomo and lunatic-leftist mamdani, most of his votes will go to Cuomo.
If Cuomo’s rapid gain continues, and a majority of Sliwa’s votes are added in, there is a realistic possibility that he could win.
But if Sliwa stays in the race, it is exceedingly unlikely that Cuomo could gain the amount of votes he would need to do so.
Bottom line, therefore? Curtis Sliwa, whether he likes it or not (and be assured he does not), emerges as zohran mamdani’s greatest asset.
Will Sliwa face this reality and – for the good of New York City – drop out, thus giving Cuomo a chance to defeat mamdani?
Or will his ego, and/or his fantasy that he has even the remotest chance to win, cause him to stay in the race and virtually guarantee that mamdani becomes Mayor of New York City?
If I were betting, I’d bet on Sliwa staying in. Yes, his ego is that massive.
How I hope I am wrong.
