That’s right. And I do mean “right” – as in right of center.
The Democrat Party picked Mike Johnson, a hardcore conservative and strong supporter of Donald Trump, as Speaker Of The House.
Why do I say this?
Because when Kevin McCarthy – avidly disliked by hard right Republicans because he was seen as too accommodating to Democrats – was up for the vote, and Republicans voted for him by 210 to 8, all it would have taken to keep McCarthy in place was 4 of the 208 Democrats voting. But not one of them did.
See, it was more important to have no speaker – i.e. an opportunity for Democrats and their lapdog media to claim Republicans were in disarray, than it was to have a Speaker in place and conduct the business of the country.
Mission accomplished, of course. With 210 out of 218 – 96.3% of Republicans – voting for McCarthy, and 0% of Democrats voting for him, virtually all our media blamed his loss exclusively on Republicans.
And for three weeks, as alternative after alternative got almost all the Republican vote but not one Democrat vote, Democrats and their lapdog media continued to propagate the farce that the lack of a speaker was exclusively the fault of Republicans. A tiny number of Democrats could have insured that any one of the alternatives would win election. But playing politics was much more important.
Well, now there is a new Speaker Of The House. His name is Mike Johnson, and he is appreciably less disposed to work with Democrats than Kevin McCarthy – the previous Speaker Democrats worked to hard to get rid of. But Democrats sure did have three weeks of making political capital out of it, didn’t they?
After all, who cares if the country was at a legislative standstill, even during a war situation in the Middle East. As long as most of the lapdog media were willing to play along and pretend this was a Republicans-only farce, Democrat fallout would be minimal. So they “won”. The country loses, but they “won”.
Sickening to the nth degree? I’d say so. How about you?
