MERRICK GARLAND

Barack Obama has nominated Merrick Garland to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court.
The best I can say is that he is better than the other two choices media have indicated that President Obama was considering.  That, however, does not change the fact that, from what I have read, Garland is a decidedly leftward justice who will almost certainly tilt the court in a direction I very much do not want it tilted.
On the other hand, if Hillary Clinton should happen to win the presidency, it is an excellent bet that her picks (probably more than one of them) will be worse.
In any event, the President, whatever we may think of him, has a right and duty to offer up a nominee….and the senate has the right and duty to vote that nominee up or down.
I strongly urge Republicans to allow this to take its course.  If Merrick Garland is accepted or rejected by the senate (which has a majority of 54 Republicans) then so be it.

  • . . . . . . . . . . . . . Could it be that Obama wants Merritt Parkway to be voted down, so Obama can next propose someone even more leftist. . . . . . . Fatigue with the process would get Obama’s real choice confirmed, merely so the Senate can move on to other things. . . . . . . Just Sayin’ . . . . . . .

  • Zeke – I doubt it, but who knows? Incidentally, you thought of the way I prefer to drive to Boston….and I thought of towns in Long Island and Texas.
