HAS IRAN MADE ITSELF A USA ASSET?

I agree that the title of this log looks ridiculous.

But think about what has Iran “accomplished” by firing at civilian – that’s right, civilian – targets in neighboring Arab countries, including (but not limited to) Bahrain, Qatar, UAE and Kuwait?

In the absence of those attacks, an argument could have been made that the action initiated by the USA was little more than Trump protecting Israel.  After all, Iran couldn’t hit the USA and it presented no threat to anyone else.

It would have been an incorrect argument, but it could have been made.

Now it can’t.

Now it is indisputable that Iran is a threat not just to Israel, but to the entire Middle East, very much including countries that are Arab and Muslim, and which are, not surprisingly, joining the USA and Israel by hitting back at Iran.

Is there any doubt that this will bring those Middle East countries closer to us and to Israel, on the grounds that Iran, in its current leadership, is our common enemy?

And is there any doubt that this will credibly be cited by Donald Trump and Republicans as proof that it was necessary – imperative – to take out Iran before it became even more powerful; before it was able to reinstitute its progress toward nuclear capability?

How ironic is it that Iran’s actions are making the argument in favor of Trump’s decision to attack Iran…and making Democrats who quickly and angrily denounced him for doing so look like uncomprehending fools, ridiculous partisans, or both?

Look, no one knows what the future will bring; what twists and turns our action and Iran’s response will take.  But that is where we are now.

Let’s all hope that the current incarnation of Iran is defeated/ended ASAP, to be replaced with leadership that seeks peace and prosperity for its people rather than hatred and neverending war.
