INSTITUTIONALIZING POLITICAL DISASTER

The following exchange, yesterday, between Face The Nation host John Dickerson and newly re-elected (for the 8th time) House Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi, explains the Democrats’ predicament better than any analysis I can provide:

DICKERSON: “The Democratic Party is in a moment of questioning about its identity. You were reelected to lead the Democrats in the House. What do you tell Democrats who want a new direction and then, go to you, what are you going to do differently?”

PELOSI: “Well, I don’t think people want a new direction. Our values unify us and our values are about supporting America’s working families. That’s one that everyone is in agreement on. What we want is a better connection of our message to working families in our country, and that clearly in the election showed that that message wasn’t coming through. But we are united in terms of the security of our country, which is our first responsibility. To be smart and strong and not reckless in how we protect the American people, strong in how we protect our economy.”

Got that?  No need to change a thing.  Our message to working families is great, we just didn’t get it out well enough.  Oh, and we’re strong on the security of our country…and the economy too.

During the Obama years, good paying jobs for “working families” flew out of this country – which is why Donald Trump’s message of jobs, jobs, jobs, secure borders and renegotiating awful trade deals caused Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania to all go Republican for the first time in decades?.

Democrats are insisting on continuing, and massively increasing, the number of immigrants from terrorist-active Muslim countries – which is why Donald Trump’s message of stopping such immigration in its tracks until we can find a way to significantly vet the people coming in resonated so well with voters.

During Barack Obama’s years in office, the national debt doubled from $10 trillion dollars to $20 trillion – which is why Donald Trump’s messages noted above – especially the trade renegotiations – generated so many Republican votes.

But no problem, Nancy.  The people who rejected Hillary Clinton, who was 100% on board with everything you brought up, and elected Donald Trump our next President instead, don’t want a new direction.  That makes all the sense in the world.  Honest…

…if you happen to be a partisan Republican who wants Democrats to sink even further.
