IF THIS IS A WINNING STRATEGY, WHAT’S A LOSING ONE?

I just read a truly remarkable article, by Benedict Smith and Tony Diver, at London’s Telegraph.

Here is how it begins – with the article in rust and my comments in blue.  Please read it, then try to find the logic I guess I must be missing:

Progressive Democrats push to take over party leadership

Progressive Democrats are pushing to take over the party leadership as in-fighting breaks out following Kamala Harris’s election defeat.  Huh?  Isn’t the reason Democrats lost – not just the presidency but, almost certainly, both houses of congress as well – that they were to the left of what voters wanted?

Left-wingers are hoping to install Ben Wikler, the Wisconsin Democratic chairman, to take over the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and swing it away from the current centrist leadership ahead of the 2026 midterms.  Centrist leadership?  WHAT centrist leadership?  Kamala Harris- the single most leftward Senator in the country when she held that position?  Tim Walz – a self-described socialist?  The Squad?

Pramila Jayapal, who leads the Democrats’ progressive faction in Congress, has said she would “love to see somebody” who is “like a Ben Wikler”, Politico reports.

Her intervention may mean Left-wing Democrats swing behind Mr Wikler, who is seen as an effective fundraiser and has been credited with reviving his party’s fortunes in Wisconsin, if he launches a bid for the position.  This is who hard-leftist Pramila Jayapal wants?  A guy who has “revived” his party’s fortunes in Wisconsin?  Didn’t Trump just win Wisconsin…after losing it in 2020?  This gets nuttier by the nanosecond.

It comes as Democrats battle over how to rebuild their party following Donald Trump’s election victory on Tuesday night.  Sure.  Rebuild it by solidifying the leftist lurch that caused Democrats to lose this year.  Even the Mad Hatter would be scratching his head over that one.

Different factions of the party are openly feuding with each other in the aftermath of Ms. Harris’s defeat, amid claims that the vice-president failed to appeal to working-class voters.

Bernie Sanders, the veteran Vermont senator, has argued that the next Democratic campaign should be based on a more Left-wing economic message.  There you go.  Listen to Bernie.  That’s the ticket.  “Win” by moving it even further left than it already is.  This is right out of a looney-tunes cartoon.

Well, there you have it.  This is what Democrat “progressives” think is their winning ticket.  Moving the party even further from the mainstream than it already is.

Does it make any sense to you? Because it sure doesn’t to me.

But one thing seems pretty sure:  Republicans and Conservatives are certain to be cheering them on and supporting them fully….
