HUMANITARIANISM IN WAR

Here is something you will not hear about from any other army in the world.

Excerpted from an article at the Associated Press:

TheIsraeli military says it is ordering Palestinians living in thenorthern Gaza Strip to evacuate the area “for their own safety.”

Ina statement Saturday, the military said it would send messages toresidents overnight to leave the area.

Brig.Gen. Motti Almoz, the chief military spokesman, said Israel plannedto hit the area with heavy force in the next 24 hours as it steps upan offensive against Gaza militants.

Officialssay the area has been used to fire rockets at Tel Aviv.

It is hard to reconcile the concept of humanitarianism with war. But this is about as close as it will ever get.

Does hamas ever stop firing artillery at Israel – which is why Israel has finally had enough and is answering the unending attacks with a decisive operation?  No.

Does hamas – committed to the death of all Jews both in and out of Israel – warn Israelis about incoming artillery? No.

Does hamas warn its own civilians to seek cover?  No.

Does hamas, instead, demand that they stay right where they are so that there are dead civilians it can blame on Israel?  Yes.

Because of this, here is what I hope:

-I hope every innocent civilian – Israeli and Palestinian Arab alike – escapes unharmed.

-I hope every person responsible for attacking Israel, thus causing its response, is blown away along with the buildings, homes, etc. Israel will be firing on.

-I hope every Palestinian Arab understands that hamas\’ actions are what have caused Israel to act.

-And I hope they understand which side gives a damn whether they live or die.
