Eric Adams, like most New York City Democrats, was a strong proponent of “sanctuary status” for illegals coming across our southern border…
…until he became Mayor of New York City and illegals started being transported there; i.e. when it wasn’t just some hypothetical pleasantry, but, like the states they were streaming into by the millions, he had to actually deal with them. Now his position is that the illegals situation is intolerable and must – MUST – be dealt with.
This brings us to Katie Hobbs, the Democrat governor of Arizona, who won her election over Republican Kari Lake last year (or did she – Lake disputes the outcome).
Hobbs had no major problem I’m aware of with the tidal wave of illegals streaming into her state. As you can see here, and here, among many other examples, Hobbs was not blowing any whistles over it…
…until now.
But as the number of illegals grows unabatedly, with no end in sight – an inevitability given the Biden administration’s “open 24 hours a day to everyone even if we don’t know who you are or why you’re coming here” policy – that attitude has changed. Dramatically.
From Zach Jewell’s article at dailywire.com:
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, ripped the Biden administration’s handling of the ongoing illegal immigration crisis and ordered her state’s National Guard to deploy troops to the southern border Friday.
In a statement Friday explaining her executive order, Hobbs said the Biden administration has “refused” to aid Arizona after the state’s “continued requests for assistance” to secure the border. Hobbs signed the order after the federal government closed a port of entry in Arizona earlier this month to send Customs and Border Protection agents to other parts of the southern border, AZ Central reported.
The governor’s order said the Biden administration’s decision to close the port of entry has led to an “unmitigated humanitarian crisis,” putting “Arizona’s safety and commerce at risk.”
“Yet again, the federal government is refusing to do its job to secure our border and keep our communities safe,” Hobbs said in a statement. “With this Executive Order, I am taking action where the federal government won’t. But we can’t stand alone, Arizona needs resources and manpower to reopen the Lukeville crossing, manage the flow of migrants, and maintain a secure, orderly and humane border. Despite continued requests for assistance, the Biden administration has refused to deliver desperately needed resources to Arizona’s border.”
Now that’s a change of position! Funny what happens when reality hits, isn’t it?
I wonder what other positions Governor Katie Hobbs might reverse herself on if/when she has to face things as they are, rather than just parroting the party line, no matter how ridiculous it is.
I guess we’ll find out, won’t we?
