Let us, just for this one blog, pretend that there was no legal reason, and no policy reason, for then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to keep her emails on a federal server, or to be sure they were not deleted.
I admit this takes a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief, but let\’s try anyway.
Ok. Now what about sheer stupidity?
From Michael S. Schmidt\’s article in yesterday\’s New York Times – which, let\’s not forget, has been a big-time supporter of Ms. Clinton for many years:
Clinton\’s Personal Email Account Contained Sensitive Information
Mrs. Clinton\’s emails show that she had a special type of government information known as “sensitive but unclassified,” or “SBU,” in her account. That information included the whereabouts and travel plans of American officials in Libya as security there deteriorated during the uprising against the leadership of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi in 2011. Nearly a year and a half before the attacks in Benghazi, Mr. Stevens, then an American envoy to the rebels, considered leaving Benghazi citing deteriorating security, according to an email to Mrs. Clinton marked “SBU.”
Let\’s make you Secretary of State for a moment. You have Sensitive But Classified (SBU) information regarding the whereabouts and travel plans of personnel in a country that is a) virtually ungoverned at the time and b) infested with USA hating radical lunatics.
Would you put it on your PERSONAL SERVER? A venue that, most children 10 years old and up can tell you is not secure and might be broken into by others?
Did Hillary Clinton think that, as Secretary of State, her emails would not be of sufficient interest to these people for them to do so?
Is it possible – maybe probable – that such information was helpful to the terrorists who killed four of our people in Benghazi?
Personally, on one level I consider this to be moot. I do not believe a word Ms. Clinton says, and am very certain she got rid of emails because they made her look like the unaccomplished, dodgy incompetent that she is.
But regardless of whether my assessment is accurate, what possible rationale would there be to have SBU information on a home server in the first place? It staggers the imagination that she could be so stupid.
Can you fix stupid? Maybe yes and maybe no. But you sure as hell can – or at any rate should – keep it out of the Oval Office.
