If we are to believe Will Stewart and Harvey Geh’s article for London’s Daily Sun, the answer, remarkably, is yes.
Here is how it begins:
FOUR Russian airfields housing Putin’s nuke bombers have reportedly been blitzed in an extraordinary drone strike – wiping out at least 40 aircraft.
Ukrainian drones – reportedly launched from lorries inside Russia – targeted airbases in Belaya, Diaghilevo, Olenya and Ivanovo as part of a daring operation codenamed “Spiderweb”.
Ukrainian security sources said long-range Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 bombers – used in daily blitz raids on Ukraine – as well as an A-50 aircraft, had been damaged or destroyed.
A source told Kyiv Post it marked a “turning point” in the war and said Russia’s “impunity is over”.
Ukrainian media said that Olenya airbase – home to Russia’s Tu-95 strategic bombers – had been targeted.
The second base under fire is understood to be the Belaya nuclear airbase in eastern Siberia’s Irkutsk region – some 2,900 miles from Ukraine.
Ukrainian sources claimed to have inflicted damage worth more than $2billion on the Russian air force.
If you use the above link, you will find a series of photographs which, assuming their accuracy, clearly show the immense damage to Russia’s air capabilities.
What a devastating attack this is. What a huge setback for Russia – which, as we talked about years ago, seemed to assume that its blitz against The Ukraine would require a very short period of time – maybe just weeks, if even that long – to accomplish its objectives.
The Ukraine was supposed to fold like a broken umbrella. But that didn’t happen, did it? And now, over 3 years later, both countries are being ripped to shreds by each other, with incalculable loss of life and damage to infrastructure.
When will it end? HOW will it end? No one knows. But here’s something I think I know: this disastrous fiasco will be the forever-legacy of vladimir putin. He will go down in history as a hopeless fool whose dreas of taking over The Ukraine, and, most likely, other former members of the USSR, has resulted little other than the destruction of two countries – one of them his own – in the process.
