Harvey Weinstein, women who accused him of sexual misconduct, his former film studio’s board members and the New York attorney general’s office have reached a tentative $44 million deal to resolve lawsuits and compensate alleged victims of the Hollywood producer, according to people familiar with the matter.
Lawyers involved in the discussions told a bankruptcy-court judge Thursday that they had reached a deal but didn’t offer specific financial terms. “For the first time, as of yesterday…we now have an economic agreement in principle that is supported by the plaintiffs, the [New York attorney general’s] office, the defendants and all of the insurers,” said Adam Harris, a lawyer for studio co-founder Bob Weinstein, to Judge Mary Walrath of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del.

You pay $440,000 and you’re getting rid of a number of nuisances.
You pay $4,00,000 and you’re paying off women who have something on you.
You pay $44,000,000 and you’re paying off women you sexually abused, while hoping to god there aren’t another $44,000,000 of them lurking in the background waiting to come forward.
Is Harvey Weinstein a pig who expected, and got, sexual favors from women because he was a powerful make-or-break movie guy?
Are at least some of the women willing participants because he was a powerful make-or-break guy?
Anyone who knows how this industry works knows the answers to those questions very well. And knows that the same answer has been true for many, many years.
Casting couch, anyone?
I have very great sympathy for the women who did not want Harvey Weinstein’s advances forced on them.
I have very little sympathy for the women who willingly gave Harvey Weinstein what he wanted so they could get something from him.
I have no sympathy at all for Harvey Weinstein.
