FOR ANYONE WHO THOUGHT STEVEN COLBERT WAS AN EQUAL-OPPORTUNITY ATTACK DOG

Stephen Colbert\’s reign as a Bill O\’Reilly satirist – a long run of 9 years – is either over or in suspended animation.  Starting in May, he will be his actual self instead of the O\’Reilly satire, as David Letterman\’s replacement on The Late Show.

There are people who, inexplicably, have conned themselves into believing Colbert went after both Republicans and Democrats – well, maybe more Republicans but the difference wasn\’t that great – as a satirical attack dog.

In an effort to help them out, I would like to show you the following, which was put out by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  See if it suggests Democrats felt Colbert went after them as he did after Republicans:

Do let me know if Republicans put out a similar thank-you for Colbert. But don\’t count on seeing one.

That clear things up?

By the way, I do not expect Colbert to be successful as Letterman\’s replacement.  This has nothing to do with my feelings about his current character or his politics.  It is because his popularity is as an O\’Reilly imitator and no one even knows who/what he is for real.  So, other than an initial rush of curiosity viewers, he probably has no appreciable base.

This is why I am not sure Colbert is through with the O\’Reilly character or it is in suspended animation…possibly to be resurrected if the Late Show gig doesn\’t work out.

We\’ll see.
