FACILITATING ISIS

Let me start with a question:  do you want members of ISIS – the radical islamist terrorist group which has taken over about 75,000 square miles of Syria and Iraq, routinely tortures, crucifies (physically, not verbally) and kills its enemies – Muslim and otherwise – by the thousands, and has specifically threatened to do the same in the United States, to have valid U.S. passports so they can freely come and go as they please?

That seems like a pretty ridiculous question, doesn\’t it?  Unless you are a member, or sympathizer, of ISIS, I will assume the answer is no.

So why are Democrats fighting legislation which would take those passports away?

Excerpted from David Sherfinski\’s article at the Washington Times:

Sen.Ted Cruz tried to get the Senateto consider a measure Thursday providing that any American who joinsthe fight with terrorist groups such as the Islamic State wouldimmediately renounce their U.S. citizenship, but a Democratic senatorobjected, saying more time is necessary to weigh the significantconstitutional issues it raises.

Themeasure makes providing support to or fighting for a terrorist grouptargeting the U.S. “an affirmative renunciation of Americancitizenship,” Mr.Cruz said on the Senatefloor Thursday. He pointed out that former Sens. Joe Lieberman,Connecticut independent, and Scott Brown, Massachusetts Republican, introduced a similar measure several years ago related to al Qaeda.

“Ifwe do not pass this legislation, the consequence will be thatAmericans fighting alongside ISIS today may come home tomorrow with aU.S. passport, may come home to New York or Los Angeles or Houston orChicago and innocent Americans may be murdered if the Senatedoes not act today,” Mr.Cruz said.

Sen.Mazie Hirono, Hawaii Democrat, objected, saying the bill has not beenbrought before the SenateJudiciary Committee and it affects “fundamental constitutionalrights, which should be given the full deliberation of the Senate.”

“Legislationthat grants the government the ability to strip citizenship fromAmericans is a serious matter, raising significant constitutionalissues,” she said.

Mr.Cruz said in response that there is an “urgency and anexigency” to the situation.

Hesaid existing law provides due process for individuals and themeasure is a recognition of changing circumstances in the world.

Let me get this straight:

-Senator Cruz has proposed legislation – similar to a bipartisan bill introduced several years ago – which would strip US citizens who join ISIS of their citizenship, thus their passports, so they cannot legally come here to act out their murderous intentions.

-But one Democrat senator, without any apparent blowback from other Democrats in the Senate, or admonition from the Democrat Senate Majority Leader, wants to hold things up so they can discuss, compare and contrast the issue – you know, just like a middle school homework assignment – while the people who, by joining ISIS, have committed themselves to killing U.S. citizens within our borders, freely travel in and out of the country.

Are you happy about this?  Does it make sense to you?  Will you sleep better at night knowing why this legislation is bottled up?  Are you happy that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hasn\’t told Senator Hirono to stuff it and brought the Cruz bill to the floor?

Do you find yourself holding back because Ted Cruz is too right wing a Senator for your tastes?  Tell you what – he\’s miles to my right as well.  But that has nothing to do with this.  The legislation we are talking about is absolutely imperative.  It is basic to protecting this country – and that means you and yours.

Now:  when do our mainstream media – other than generally conservative venues such as the Washington Times – start telling the public about this insanity?  When do they start screaming about it?  Before, or after, the attacks start happening?  Before or after one of their family members is a victim?

And who will they blame, other than Democrats…and themselves?
