It wasn’t so long ago that the Democrat Party pretty much owned the youth vote. And that, over time, it could mean Democrats would have a major advantage over the Republican Party.
But after the last few years of “woke”ness, things have changed pretty significantly.
Let me show you, via this excerpt from Randy DeSoto’s article at The Western Journal, via msn.com:
Two recent polls show that Democrats are in trouble with younger voters, which has been a key demographic for them in past elections.
And if the Democrats cannot hold the youth vote by a large margin, their chances of retaking the House and Senate in 2026 narrow considerably.
The Harvard Youth Poll conducted last month among 18-29 year-olds found “The share of young Americans who approve of Congressional Democrats has dropped 19 points since Spring 2017 — from 42 percent to just 23 percent.”
In contrast, Harvard reported, “In that same period, approval of Congressional Republicans has held steady, inching up slightly from 28 percent to 29 percent.”
Meanwhile, the Yale Youth Poll conducted earlier this month reported, “When asked whether they would vote for the Democratic or Republican candidate in the 2026 congressional elections in their district, voters aged 22–29 favored the Democratic candidate by a margin of 6.4 points, but voters aged 18–21 favored the Republican by a margin of 11.7 points.”
If those data are anything near accurate, this is nothing short of disastrous for Democrats.
Look at the Harvard poll: over the past 8 years there has been a 19% drop in approval of congressional Democrats, versus a 1% rise for Republicans. That’s a turnaround of 20%, virtually all due to dissatisfaction with Democrats (and, I am guessing, most of it in just the last couple of years.
In other words, Republicans still stink among this demographic, but Democrats have gone from appreciably better (14% higher approval) to Republicans holding a 6% edge.
In the Yale study, the younger voters are, the more Republican they are. That literally flies in the face of decades of previous poll data which have shown younger people trend more Democrat than Republican…and by plenty.
Are these data accurate? Polls can certainly be wrong.
Even if they are accurate, will these differences hold until the 2026 mid-term elections? No way of knowing.
But if you’re a Democrat, how would you feel about what they are telling you? Think sleepless nights; many of them.
