Cynthia McFadden does features for NBC\’s Today Show. As such, you might be inclined to think that, if she were to interview Hillary Clinton, the interview would consist of a series of softball questions and “criticisms” teed up in a way that Ms. Clinton could smile indulgently and answer them without breaking a sweat.
Well, if that\’s what you think…..you are 100% correct.
Click here to see a video of this morning\’s segment of the interview. But first, a preview:
McFadden introduces the segment by telling us that Hillary Clinton\’s critics say she has never accomplished anything, but Clinton gives herself a “A” rating. No mention of the accomplishments that generate this “A” rating…and no questions about what she has done to earn it during the interview segment.
Great start, Cynthia.
She starts the interview segment itself by asking Ms. Clinton what would cause her not to run. A simple question that Ms. Clinton certainly has devised a general answer to, which is what she gave. Nothing much here, just a throwaway q and a.
Next McFadden asks whether “it gets old” that she\’s judged on her “hair and glasses”. I kid you not.
Then she mentions that Barbara Bush has said enough of Bush\’s and Clinton\’s running for President. They both laughed and agreed on what a nice lady she is.
Then a tee-up question about Putin making a disparaging comment about her, to which she answers “He\’s not the first male leader who has engaged in sexism” – in other words, the requisite “I am woman, I am oppressed” line, to keep the left wing “feminist groups” happy.
After that, another tee-up in which McFadden, with a loving smile, notes there are people who think we are less safe now that “these five guys” have been traded for bowe bergdahl – not “these five terrorist murderers who the taliban specifically asked for because they were highest-level people capable of running terrorist operations, but “these five guys” like they were just a few nondescript grunts.
Hillary\’s answer? “These five guys” (picking up on McFadden\’s sanitized description) are not a threat to the United States, they are a threat to Afghanistan and Pakistan.”
What an amazing answer.
A real interviewer would have asked a) whether Ms. Clinton realized that we still have over 30,000 troops in Afghanistan who therefore are part of that threat, b) how are Afghanistan and Pakistan supposed to feel when a possible US President tells them, pretty much in so many words, that it\’s ok to free terrorist murderers as long as your people are the ones they will murder, and c) how could she be this tone deaf and insensitive.
But, of course, McFadden did not ask any of those questions.
Clinton finished by explaining the “logic” of trading the terrorist murderers for bowe bergdahl by saying “It doesn\’t matter if he fell off the ship, was pushed or jumped, we try to rescue everybody”. No mention at all of the servicemen who died trying to find this deserter. Not important enough to bring up.
And that, folks, was the end of the interview.
I again urge you to use the link I\’ve provided and see/hear this joke of an interview for yourself. And be sure to pass it along to anyone you know who thinks, for even a second, that NBC intends to provide serious coverage of Hillary Clinton, rather than fawning adulation.
