The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act requires proof of citizenship for people to vote. And that is all it should require.
But Trump/Republicans have added in two other issues: prohibiting men in women’s sports and prohibiting minors getting so-called gender altering operations without express parental consent.
Personally, I agree with every part of that bill. But by adding men in women’s sports and gender surgeries, congress is voting not on a specific voting act but on a series of issues. And that muddies things for no good reason.
This should NOT be the case.
To President Trump and Republicans: clean up this act, make it expressly and exclusively to prevent non-citizens from voting. If you want votes on the other issues, separate them from SAVE.
Do it now. Please.
