Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is threatening to convince/coerce enough Democrats to vote against a Continuing Resolution (CR) so that it won’t pass through, resulting in a government “shutdown” (other than essential services) tomorrow.
The idea is to make that happen and then, somehow, blame Trump and Republicans for it.
Will that work?
No way to tell for sure. But given that, according to just about every poll I’ve seen, Democrats are so poorly thought of right now, it’s a pretty good bet that they, not Republicans, will take the blame.
Does this mean Schumer will back down? Maybe. But given how many mistakes he, and the overall Democrat Party, have made in recent months (Kamala Harris/Tim Walz being the biggest by far, but there have been others as well), it’s hard to tell one way or the other.
By the weekend we’ll know if Democrats will or won’t prevent the CR from passing – and, if they do prevent it, which party will be blamed for the shutdown.
Bring your popcorn.
