From Demarco Morgan’s article at CBS News:
The city of Chicago is dealing with a major spike in gun violence. Ten people were shot overnight Friday.
Last month, 72 people were shot to death. There have already been 350 homicides in Chicago this year, outpacing the total for the same period in 2015.
The city may even surpass 600 murders for the first time in more than a decade.
Chicago police are warning the city could see one of its most violent and deadly holiday weekends on record.
To combat the violence, the city’s embattled police force is adding 5,000 more officers to patrol its Navy Pier and city neighborhoods.
The new police chief, Eddie Johnson, said he’s also putting 150 officers that were on desk duty back on the streets.
I have a great idea. Why doesn’t Chicago just pass a few new gun control laws. That’s sure to take care of the problem.
Isn’t that what Democrats in congress are telling us? Make it harder and harder for people to purchase guns legally, and you will be successfully fighting gun crime.
Oh, wait? What’s that? You’re reminding me that the vast majority of gun crime in Chicago (and other major cities) is committed by legal gun owners? That the guns used are obtained outside of the laws.
Then…hold on, let me think about this…could it possibly mean that when you implement additional gun control laws, you’re not actually addressing gun crime? That, if most gun crime is committed by people who don’t obey the laws, passing new laws is irrelevant to their use of guns?
Are you telling me that gun law legislation, and gun violence in inner cities, are TWO SEPARATE ISSUES?
Y’know…you just might have a point there.
Any congressional Democrats paying attention to this? I hope so.

My states legislature and governor just enacted a bunch of new gun control laws. I believe they take affect Jan 1st.
On Jan. 1st I become a criminal.
