CHICAGO AND ILLEGALS: GETTING IT GOOD AND HARD

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”:  H. L. Mencken

Well, the voters of Chicago knew what they wanted when they elected Democrat hard-leftist Brandon Johnson Mayor – And they knew what they wanted when they elected their 50 member City Council, comprised of 47 Democrats and three independents – one of whom self-identifies as a Democratic Socialist.

And are they getting it good and hard?  Read John Binder’s article at breitbart.com, which discusses Monday’s City Council meeting; specifically, how Johnson was absolutely reamed by voter after voter – especially for his kids-glove treatment of illegal aliens.

Here are a few excerpts:

During a city council meeting this week, residents in the sanctuary city of Chicago, Illinois, urged President-elect Donald Trump and his border czar, Thomas Homan, to arrest Mayor Brandon Johnson should he try to stop their plan to deport illegal aliens.

At Monday’s city council meeting, residents called on Trump and Homan to arrest Johnson if he gets in their way of detaining illegal aliens in Chicago.

“So Brandon, you and all these Democrat mayors out here and Democrat governors, ya’ll talking about cashing out for these illegals, right? You all sit up there and said you would not allow Trump to come in here and get these illegals,” Danielle Carter said:

We in a billion dollar deficit and you spent half of that on illegals. You campaigned … that you would not raise property taxes … and here we are right now and you wanted to raise our taxes $300 million and they shut it down and now you back wanting $150 million. [Emphasis added]

Similarly, a woman who identified herself as Ms. Florence accused Johnson of being singularly focused on protecting illegal aliens from deportation while doing “nothing for the U.S. citizens.”

Another resident, David Mason, told Johnson “you ain’t above the law” in regards to his suggestion that he will block a future Trump administration from deporting illegal aliens living in Chicago.

Most recently, reports revealed that the Chicago Police Department has arrested more than 30 Tren de Aragua gang members over the last two years, only for them to be released back onto the streets thanks to an Illinois law that eliminated cash bail and Chicago’s sanctuary policy.

Chicago has been a one-party town for longer than most of its residence have resided on planet earth.  The last time a Republican served as Mayor was 1931 – 93 years ago.  And in the 103 years Chicago has had a 50-member City Council, I cannot find one time when Republicans were the majority party.

But now?  If the attitudes expressed by people at this town hall administration are any indication, it is possible that, due in no small part to the incompetence of Brandon Johnson/the consequences of his policies, the Republican Party is about to have a resurgence of sorts in Chicago.  Nowhere near enough to win the Mayoralty, but maybe enough to elect at least a few Republicans to the City Council and start the move toward an actual two party presence there.

Pretty thin gruel, I admit.  I doubt I will live to see a serious two-party Chicago, let alone a Republican-run one.  And I have no idea if a Republican-run Chicago would improve things there (though I doubt it could be worse than what’s happening under Johnson and his similarly incompetent predecessor, Lori Lightfoot).

But one thing I’m pretty sure of:  getting rid of Brandon “Good and Hard” Johnson in the next election would be a good start in the right direction for BOTH parties.
