Brent Bozell and I don\’t agree on everything, or even most things – certainly not when it comes to social issues. But he has absolutely hit the nail on the head in his commentary about Brandeis\’ disgusting, shameful, cowardly withdrawal of an honorary degree for Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
Please click here to read his entire piece. Here are the first few paragraphs:
It\’sgraduation time. Many college students are preparing for theircommencement ceremonies. On some campuses, some students are playinga game of what we might call “Dump the Speaker.”Conservative speakers chosen to deliver commencement addresses arebeing howled off campus by leftist student organizations and facultyas well. It\’s either a left-wing speaker — or none.
RutgersUniversity recently faced this by inviting Condoleezza Rice andrefused to budge. But Brandeis University has just knuckled under tostudent and faculty protests over its announced speaker, author AyaanHirsi Ali. She was disinvited.
You\’dthink a human rights advocate would be cheered by these liberals.You\’d think they\’d positively swoon at a human rights advocate forwomen! But, no. She is a conservative.
TheMuslim students and their “allies” didn\’t want to hearanything Ali had to say about honor killings or female gendermutilation. Explaining why 86 faculty members signed a demand theinvitation be revoked, professor Bernadette Brooten offered an emptyjustification: Non-Muslims commit violence, too.
Mr. Bozell, apart from his 100% justified dismantling of Brandeis and its intolerati, has hit on another point that I have made repeatedly in this blog; that, in the world of today\’s left, there is no such thing as women\’s rights. There are left wing rights.
If a woman is not left of center, she can be bashed unmercifully, even in the crudest ways (bill maher\’s profane references to Sarah Palin\’s genital area immediately come to mind). And the self-professed “tolerant” crowd will not have any problem at all about it.
I again urge you to read the Bozell column…and understand just how intolerant, even fascistic, the left has become in recent years – with a special (dis)honorable mention to our media, without whose complicity (i.e. looking the other way virtually every time it happens, and often -as with Ms. Palin – joining in the fun) things could never have gotten to this point.
I hope you\’re proud of what you have facilitated, guys.
