Is it just that anything which prevents an abortion from being successful – even a live baby – is too much for the Democrat Party? Or are its members just ok with dead babies?
That may seem like a terribly unfair, gruesome question. But before you judge it, read this, from Jordan Boyd’s article at thefederalist.com:
Democrats have tried to pretend they are not the party of abortion extremism. Their rhetoric and voting records on common sense and popular protections for women and babies, however, confirm they support ending life up to and even through birth.
The most recent display of this radicalism occurred on Wednesday, the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, when all 47 Democrats in the U.S. Senate voted to block a bill that seeks to criminalize leaving babies born alive during botched abortions to die. The blue party’s unanimous rejection of the legislation hampered Republicans from invoking the 60-vote cloture minimum needed to overcome a filibuster.
The “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” reintroduced earlier this month by Republican Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, James Lankford of Oklahoma, and Jim Banks of Indiana, aimed to require healthcare workers who witness a baby’s survival after attempted dismemberment or chemical abortion to immediately rescue and medically treat the child just as they would any other prematurely delivered newborn patient.
Failure to administer an abortion survivor proper aid, the legislation dictated, must be immediately reported to state and federal law enforcement agencies and could result in fines and up to five years imprisonment. Healthcare workers who not only fail to execute professional and proper care, but also actively work to end the life of a baby born alive would be eligible for murder charges and punishment.
Did you read the above? Do you understand what Democrats are fighting to prevent being enacted as law?
This legislation says that, if a woman has an abortion procedure and the baby is born alive, it should be treated like a live baby, and there would be legal penalties for not doing so/intentionally allowing the live baby to die.
Please remember, BASPA is not – NOT – legislation that in any way prevents or inhibits the woman’s right to an abortion. The entire thrust of the legislation – 100% of it – involves what happens AFTER the abortion procedure.
But since abortion is a position where Democrats generate a great deal of voter support – it may well be the party’s single greatest asset – they apparently are scared excrementless of supporting any legislation that prevents what they think of as a “successful” abortion (i.e. no live baby) from occurring.
Is it because, since this law only kicks in if there is a live baby after the abortion procedure, it is a demonstration that the mother, whether she realized it or not, was trying to kill her live child…which opens the pandora’s box of when a child is and is not alive (i.e. might result in restrictions on abortions)?
This question is valid, because situations like this put the lie to the premise that all abortions simply prevent a child from developing to the point of being a live child. It forces us to recognize that, in these cases, there IS a live child.
And what is the rationale for Democrats’ 100% rejection of a bill that protects live babies? It is that, they claim now (I haven’t heard this in their previous votes against versions of BASPA, and BAIPA – the Born Alive Infant Protection Act – legislation) that Republican President George Bush already pushed a similar bill through congress in 2002, therefore it is extraneous.
That, folks, is a lie. Yes, a bill defining what a live baby is was passed that year. Here it is: – all one page of it.
Did you read it? If so, did you find any legal remedy to punish people who allow live babies to die? Under any circumstances – not just after abortion procedures?
No you did not. Because it is not there. These bills are NOT the same. And the vagueness of the 2002 bill is what has allowed live babies, whose only “crime” was surviving a death by abortion, to be left to die.
Want proof? Watch/listen to this statement made in 2019 by then-Governor of Virginia Ralph Northam, while talking about third-trimester abortions in his state, and you’ll have it.
Says Northam:
“If a mother is in labor I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother…
There you go. The baby is born. The baby is alive. Now we’ll decide whether the live baby will or will not be allowed to live. If the mother and the family don’t want the live baby, forget any resuscitation, we can just leave it to die.
It seems to me there is no doubt legislation like BASPA is necessary. But since it might offend the abortion-uber-alles crowd, Democrats line up against it.
There are the facts, folks. Make of them what you will, and decide for yourself what Democrats’ motives are.
