From Eric Bradner\’s article at CNN.com:
Vice President JoeBiden says he regrets “every day” that he didn\’t enter the2016 presidential race — but his decision was in his family\’s best interests.
“I regret it every day, but it was the right decisionfor my family and for me. And I plan on staying deeply involved,” Bidensaid in an interview with Connecticut NBC affiliate WVIT.
Biden said the Democratic race between former Secretary ofState Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is “what Iexpected,” adding that there has been a “real robust debate betweenHillary and Bernie, as there would have been if I had gotten in the race.”
Are you smelling what I\’m smelling?
If Joe Biden had said “I regret it every day, but it was the right decision for my family and for me. And I plan on staying out”, that would be one thing. But he ended it by saying And I plan on staying deeply involved. That just may be another.
Hillary Clinton has families of the dead calling her a liar about what she told them.
So many classified emails have been uncovered that there is no way to keep pretending her personal server was anything but a reference outlet for our enemies, and anyone else with even moderate hacking skills.
And now both she and Bill are being challenged every place they go to address the numbers of women who have accused Hubby Bubba of molestation and rape – which makes it harder and harder for her to talk about any Republican “War on Women” – which might otherwise have been her signature issue in this campaign.
Add to it the rumors of her ongoing health problems (do you doubt that Bill Clinton\’s telling us it took a half year of “very serious work” to recover from her concussion in 2014 will not be campaign fodder)…
…and you have the makings of an opening about two miles wide for Joe Biden to reconsider and drive through.
What happens if/when a rejuvenated Biden announces that his family – the reason he dropped out of the race, but regrets doing every day – has implored him to jump back in?
What happens if/when he points out that Hillary Clinton has become less and less of a viable candidate, so the Democratic Party must have a significant alternative to consider?
And if he were to do so, who do you suppose President Obama would be backing? I think we both know the answer to that one.
Bottom line: would I bet on this happening? No.
But, tell you what: I wouldn\’t bet against it either.
So my advice is to keep an open mind…and an open nose. Because this is not out of the question.
