During yesterday’s House Homeland Security Hearing, Rep. Bennie Johnson (D-MS) referred to the November 26th shooting of two National Guard members – one of whom died and the other struggling to recover – as an “unfortunate accident”.
That’s right. An unfortunate accident. An accident!!!
Afterwards, when CNN’s Kate Bolduan questioned him on whether he truly believed it was an accident, Johnson’s answer was “Oh, absolutely not”…the inference being that it was just an indadvertent misspeak of some kind.
Do you believe him?
Before you answer, please read the verbatim exchange, between him and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem (and here, from Jason Cohen’s article for dailycaller.com, is the video:
Johnson: Madame Secretary, you a, and the gentleman from CT, NCTC (the National Counter-Terrorism Center) uh, referenced the unfortunate accident that occurred with the National Guardsmen being killed.”
Noem: “You think that was an unfortunate accident?”
Johnson: “I mean…
Noem: “That was a terror attack”
Johnson: “Look, I’ll get it straight, then you can respond…”
Noem: “He shot a National Guardsman in the head”
Johnson: “Look, Mr. Chairman, would you direct the witness to allow me to aks my question? (Pointing at Noem) It was an unfortunate situation…..
Johnson then went on to challenge whether it was President Biden or Trump who gave the shooter, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, asylum.
To summarize: first Johnson called it an unfortunate accident. And then, when directly challenged about that wording – which, it seems obvious to me, would have been his opportunity to say he didn’t mean it that way – Johnson instead doubled down by calling it an “unfortunate situation”.
I don’t know what that tells you. But it tells me Johnson’s claim that he misspoke is a flat-out, dead-on lie.
But don’t worry, Rep. Johnson. Most media won’t call you out on it. They’ll keep you safe. They’re too busy attacking Trump for “epstein” (we still have not seen any one of them accuse Trump of anything specific relating to him) and of bombing a couple of narco-traffickers.
