AS THE CALIFORNIA FIRES CONTINUE TO RAGE…

…we continue to have the same people whose mismanagement and grotesque mis-ordering of priorities caused the carnage currently taking place trying to put the blame on everyone but themselves.

In this connection, here are the first three paragraphs of Nick Pope’s dead-on-target analysis, titled “‘Excuses Go Up In Flames’: California Dems Paved The Way For Los Angeles To Be Consumed By ‘The Big One’”, at dailycaller.com:

Southern California was known for years to be vulnerable to potentially devastating wildfires, but Democratic officials did not take sufficient action before proceeding to botch the response to fires currently devastating the Los Angeles area.

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom failed to follow through on a signature 2019 initiative to revamp the state’s approach to wildfires and neglected to adequately manage wildfire kindling while a key reservoir reportedly sat empty in the lead-up to the fires that have rocked Southern California this week. While there is nuance to these shortcomings, the results of the crisis makes clear that California’s top officials failed to effectively handle a predictable and dire emergency, according to emergency management and policy experts.

“We saw this coming, and we have said, ‘I told you so’ every time there’s been a super fire. This time, the super fire happens to be even more catastrophic, because it’s happening in one of the most densely-populated areas in the United States,” Edward Ring, director of water and energy policy for the California Policy Center, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “It’s the same message, which is that we have neglected our water infrastructure. We have mismanaged our forests and chaparral in the name of environmentalism, and we’re paying the price.”

Why pick on “Democrat officials”?  Why give a pass to Republicans?

Because Democrats are in control of every area which failed.  The Governor is a Democrat.  Both Senators are Democrats.  The Mayor of Los Angeles is a Democrat.  The Los Angeles City Council – 15 members – is comprised of 14 Democrats and one “independent”.  Etc. etc. etc.  Who else would you blame?

Will these elected officials learn anything from this major catastrophe – a catastrophe still in progress and growing?

Well, they didn’t learn squat from the ones before it, did they?  And their answers for this one so far are not “here’s what we have to do differently”. All we’ve heard so far is a stream of blame aimed at everyone and everything other than themselves.

And now, the big question:  Will VOTERS learn anything from this?

That remains to be seen.  Maybe it will happen, maybe not.

Personally, this being California, I wouldn’t put money on it.  But you never know.
