ARCHBISHOP HILLARY SPEAKS

Ken Berwitz

Remember that very funny movie, “Ghostbusters”?  Remember the part where the ghostbusters are in the mayor\’s office trying to convince him that they can protect New York City from evil spirits, and the Archbishop shows up?

Here is the dialogue between the Mayor and the Archbishop:

ARCHBISHOP: (entering) Goodafternoon, gentlemen.

MAYOR: Oh…Your Eminence! (kisses ARCHBISHOP\’s ring)

ARCHBISHOP: How areyou, Lenny?

MAYOR: You\’relooking good, Mike. (gives ARCHBISHOP a friendlyslap) We\’re ina real fix, here. What do you think I should do?

ARCHBISHOP: Lenny, officially, the Church will not take any position on the religious implicationsof these phenomena. Personally, Lenny, I think it\’s a sign from God. But don\’tquote me on that.

Remember how we all laughed at the Archbishop\’s mangled comments, which could be construed as taking all sides of the issue?

Well, here, from Amy Chozick and Maggie Haberman\’s article in the New York Times, is Hillary Clinton, yesterday, at a town hall in Waterloo, Iowa, speaking about Donald Trump\’s idea to ban all Muslims “until we figure out what the hell is going on”:

At a town hall here on Wednesday, Mrs. Clinton delivered hermost damning, direct criticism of Mr. Trump, saying that he traffics “inprejudice and paranoia,” and that his Muslim proposal was “not only shameful,it\’s dangerous.”

But Mrs. Clinton also strove to recognize something stirringin the electorate that Mr. Trump had clearly tapped into. “It\’s O.K., it\’s O.K.to be afraid,” she said. “When bad things happen, it does cause anxiety andfear,” she added. “But then you pull yourself together and, especially, if youwant to be a leader of our country, and you say:\’O.K., what are we going to doabout it? How are we going to be prepared?\'”

Is it just me, or do you also think that\’s exactly what the Archbishop would have said?
