Rep. robert garcia (D-CA) is – as you might guess, given his party and the state he hails from – an anti-Trump progressive.
It is no surprise, therefore, that garcia is less than taken with President Trump’s agenda and the aggressiveness with which Mr. Trump is pursuing it. Fair enough.
But here, during an interview on CNN, is how garcia has instructed people to do something about it.
After first calling Elon Musk “a dick” (that should tell you his class level) garcia then said:
“What the American public wants is for us to bring actual weapons to this bar fight. This is an actual fight for democracy, for the future of this country”
Doubt me? Here is the video.
Bring actual weapons? Actual weapons??? Does it get uglier than this? More graphic in its suggestion of violence against Republicans? Tell me how.
Writing about it at powerlineblog,com, John Hinderaker had this reaction:
After the near-fatal shooting of Majority Leader Steve Scalise, the attempted assassination of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, two assassination attempts against President Trump, and the attempt to murder Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent with a knife, you might expect that Democrats would cool it with exhortations to use violence against Republicans. But I think they are seriously trying to get someone killed.
I not only agree completely with Mr. Hinderaker, but I would add in the number of other Democrats – including leaders like Hakeem Jeffries to name just one – who also have specifically told anti-Trump people to go “to the streets” and do something about it.
If even one prominent Republican, let a lone a group of them, ever made comments like this, you can bet you would be hearing about it on CNN. And MSNBC. And the major networks. And the New York Times, Washington Post, etc, etc. etc. etc. etc.
But where is the outrage from these same media when, one after the other, Democrats – those sincere folks who have spent months warning of the “death of democracy” – are suggesting there be violence against the people they disagree with politically?
Sad to say, this seems clearly to be another chapter in the disintegration of both the Democrat Party – as well as what passes for mainstream media in this country.
And unless/until the dwindling number of more reasonable Democrats find a way to take control back from the people currently running their party into the ground, I’m not sure it can continue as a major national alternative for voters.
As for much of mainstream media? Truthfully, I think they’re already so far gone that there’s no way back.
