From Jacob Kornbluh’s article for The Forward, via msn.com:
Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, said in an interview on Sunday that if elected, he would support permanently divesting from Israel Bonds. Brad Lander, the outgoing city comptroller and a Mamdani ally, ended the city’s half-century practice of investing millions in Israeli government debt securities in 2023.
“I think that we should not have a fund that is invested in the violation of international law,” Mamdani said in an interview with CBS New York’s The Point with Marcia Kramer.
Mamdani, a supporter of the boycott Israel movement who pledged during the primary that he would end economic ties with the Israeli government, said he supports Lander’s move as a political statement.
You have to give zohran mamdani a little (not much but a little) credit here. He is telling us exactly what his attitude toward Israel is and how he would handle things Israel-wise if he were elected.
Now: how much credit do you give supporters of Israel – or any Jews at all, given that mamdani’s animus pretty clearly doesn’t stop at the state of Israel’s existence – if, knowing this, they vote for an obvious Israel hater/Jew hater as their Mayor?
I get sick to my stomach even thinking about the prospect of it happening. But, it seems clear, unless one or two opponents drop out (and even that might not change things) he is going win this election.
Voters get what you vote for. And if this is what New York voters want to get….you can finish the statement yourself; I don’t like to use that kind of language on my blog.
