BAGHDAD—AlQaeda-inspired militants seized control of Iraq\’s second-largest cityon Tuesday in a brazen military operation that underscored theweakness of the Baghdad government across vast swaths of the country.
Hoursafter government forces fled Mosul in disarray following four days offighting, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki declared a nationwide “stateof maximum preparedness” but didn\’t indicate whether governmentforces were mobilizing to retake the Iraqi city, 220 miles north ofthe capital Baghdad.
Therewas no immediate claim of responsibility for the capture of Mosul,the scene of major fighting between al Qaeda and U.S. troops andIraqi forces during the nearly nine-year American presence in thecountry.
Butvideos point to rebels aligned with the Islamic State of Iraq andal-Sham, or ISIS. They show victorious insurgents waving black flagsemblazoned with an Islamic script, which that are brandished by alQaeda militants world-wide.
To summarize: ISIS, an offshoot directly emanating from al-qaeda – which President Obama told us was virtually decimated – has overrun the Iraqi troops which President Obama left naked when he removed all US military without leaving a nominal force to help and advise the Iraqis. The result? these terrorists have now taken over the country\’s second largest city. (UPDATE: It apparently has taken over Tikrit as well. How long before it is running Iraq altogether?)
These murdering scumbags should be sending Barack Obama a thank you card and a nice gift. Because if he had not lied to our faces about the fact that they were anything but decimated, then left an obviously unprepared Iraqi army to go it alone, they would never have been able to pull this off.
I count the seconds until this nightmare administration is finished — and only hope we aren\’t finished first.
