You\’re going to think I\’m making this up. But I\’m not.
Clyde A. Lynch was the President of Lebanon Valley College, in Pennsylvania, from 1932w to 1950. Not surprisingly, a building at the school is named in his honor.
But that is terrible. You see, the name Lynch Hall has racial overtones. Therefore, it must be changed. Or so says some number of students, whose sensibilities are apparently in a dither over this.
Aren\’t you supposed to be at least a little grown up to go to college? You\’d never know it, based on this insanity.
And, believe me, the students aren\’t the only ones. Let\’s see what the school\’s ridiculous, pusillanimous current President has to say, via the following excerpt from an Associated Press article at yahoo.com:
School spokesman Marty Parkessaid Tuesday that President Lewis Thayne is considering all of the demands andwill address them at a forum next month.
Calling Lynch a “veryimportant figure” in the history of the college, Parkes said officialswant to avoid “doing anything that would denigrate his memory or hislegacy here.”
Does this dunderhead not realize that considering a name change for this reason is denigrating Clyde A. Lynch\’s memory and legacy?
What next? Will these immature children in young adults\’ bodies demand that Goose Gossage be removed from baseball\’s Hall of Fame because his nickname connotes sexual harrasment?
This is another of the seemingly countless examples of Academic Brownshirts on parade – intent on molding the college/university experience to their own parochial view of how things should be and which thoughts are/are not acceptable.
Academic Brownshirts: I have to admit it is harder and harder not to remove that second “r”.
