I wish there were a shortage of material for this series. But there is a surfeit instead.
Here\’s the latest, via Blake Neff\’s article at dailycaller.com:
The University ofMaryland is sponsoring a poster campaign encouraging students torefer to illegal immigrants as “undocumented citizens.”
The inaccurate term, first noted byCampus Reform, is promoted by the school\’s “Inclusive LanguageCampaign,” which is throwing upposters around campus to encourage the use of friendlierlanguage.
UMD\’s Multicultural Involvement and Community Advocacy office, anofficial organ of the university, is running the campaign. The posters tellstudents that “words have power” and people should be cautious, lest theyoffend people with the terms they use.
“Would you say[illegal alien] if you knew I am an undocumented citizen?” the poster askspassersby.
Allow me to answer the poster\’s question: yes, I would call you an illegal alien. Because you are, by definition, an alien, and you are here illegally. That\’s what an illegal alien is.
Why would the University of Maryland – a school multiple relatives of mine have attended – sponsor this exercise in trying to inhibit free speech? The answer is that it, like so many other schools, has been overtaken by mindless robots who have no interest whatsoever in freedom of expression, only in forcing others to behave exactly according to their dictates.
This is another of the seemingly countless examples of Academic Brownshirts on parade – intent on molding the college/university experience to their own parochial view of how things should be and which thoughts are/are not acceptable.
Academic Brownshirts: I have to admit it is harder and harder not to remove that second “r”.
